The SME 15 MK2 model is inspired by the SME 30 and SME 20 models, combining many technical details and qualities with a significantly reduced footprint. The stable sub-chassis, milled from solid aluminum, is suspended on three columns with 10 O-ring dampers each and is controlled by a central damping element, absorbing excess energy. The robust aluminum chassis firmly rests on three feet and can be height leveled. The new SME 60 reference turntable serves as the technological foundation for the enhanced drives of the 15 MK2 model. Technological advancements from the development of the motor, motor control, and external power supply of the 60 model have been integrated into the 15 MK2. The new controller features a specially developed 24V synchronous motor controlled by a DSP-supported control unit, operating with incredible precision. The DSP provides current in two perfect sine waves to the motor, ensuring exceptionally smooth and precise operation. The motor and control unit are perfectly matched, allowing precise speed adjustment in increments of 0.01%. The bearing of the 15 MK2 model is a robust and durable precision bearing from SME, with a phosphor bronze thrust pad and a 19mm diameter chrome-plated tool steel spindle, providing a turntable bearing machined to within 3/1000 mm. The platter is a sandwich construction with high inertia and excellent damping. The platter support is made from aerospace-grade micro-profiled material. The record clamp ensures a perfect coupling.
